Sinopsis Después de que el vuelo 815 de Oceanic se rompiera en el aire, y se estrellara en una remota isla del Pacífico, los supervivientes se vieron obligados a crear lazos entre ellos para poder sobrevivir. Pero al poco tiempo, descubrieron que la isla tiene muchos secretos, incluyendo un misterioso monstruo de humo, osos polares, casas con conductos de aguas calientes y electricidad, un grupo de residentes en la isla llamados "Los Otros", y un misterioso hombre llamado Jacob. También descubrieron signos de que hubo personas que llegaron antes que ellos, como un barco del siglo XIX llamado "La Roca Negra", un avión Beechcraft de traficantes de drogas, los restos de una antigua estatua, así como bunkers que pertenecían a un grupo de investigadores y científicos de la Iniciativa Dharma, que habitaron la isla hace un corto período de tiempo atrás. Finalmente, contactaron con un carguero que estaba cerca de la isla, y algunos pensaron que sería su esperado rescate, pero una última instancia casi causa la muerte de todos ellos.
