El escritor de la genial The Good, The Bad and the Weird, nos trae un Thriller sobrenatural sobre el enfrentamiento de un joven que tiene poderes psiquicos capaces de controlar la mente de la gente que puede ver (protagonizado por Gang Dong-Won) contra otro que es incapaz de obedecer a su poder mental (Ko Soo) y que es testigo del asesinato de su jefe, por lo que en plan de hacer justicia decide enfrentarlo a pesar de todo el poder que este criminal lleva consigo. Haunters, es un psicothriller que esta escrito con una fuerza y ritmo que no deja respiro, nos presenta a dos enemigos antagonicos, uno marginado desde niño por sus poderes y por sus defectos fisicos, destruido moralmente por un hogar disfuncional con un padre abusivo al que asesina por maltratar a su madre frente a un joven inseguro y algo perdido en el mundo que luego de un accidente cae a trabajar en una casa de empeño donde es acogido por cariño, pero al producirse un robo misterioso en su trabajo producido por los poderes mentales del criminal y del cual no le produce ningun efecto decide perseguir al ladrón y asesino de su jefe. Una cinta que tiene un excelente ritmo y manejo de la tensión en contra de la carencia de efectos especiales, un buen manejo de la acción pero que al final se desboca argumentalmente y pareciese que no supieron como cerrar su desenlace, sin embargo, mantiene el nivel y se hace una cinta entretenida y por momentos excelente. Kenneth Bi, interesante realizador chino nos entrega esta su ultima cinta, The Drummer, protagonizada por el ya famoso y alejado de la sombra de su padre, Jaycee Chan (hijo de Jackie Chan por si alguno aun no lo sabe), como un joven baterista rebelde y impetuoso quizas debido a la influencia de su padre mafioso y primario protagonizado por un genial y eficaz, Tony Leung Kai Fai, que se ve envuelto en un problema por meterse con la mujer de un poderoso jefe local que inclusive le pide las manos de su hijo, a su padre. A pesar de los codigos y brutalidad de sus acciones, el padre decide no infringirle un severo castigo a su hijo, sino procede a remitirlo a un lugar alejado de Hong Kong, en donde en sus cerros y montes, se encuentra un grupo de tamboristas zen que en su estilo de vida y pasión por los tambores, este joven encontrará el camino a su propia redención. The Drummer, es una cinta que como muchas en el cine asiatico, tratan de hablar de la espiritualidad y redención que genera la musica en algunas personas, como un instrumento musical y usado colectivamente, es el remedio para el desamor, los odios y esa falta de paz en la vida de este joven quien se debe de enfrentar a las cosas infernales que hace su padre para asi lograr su propio destino. ] La segunda película bélica que se presenta en este festival, esta vez de procedencia coreana, vuelve a utilizar la guerra tan sólo como telón de fondo. Y aunque el resultado es inferior al de "Enemy at the gates", lo cierto es que no es una película nada desdeñable. Quizá el mayor interés sea su parte humanitaria. Es decir, que si "Joint Security Area" supone un hito en la cinematografía de su país es debido a que, tocando un tema tan frágil como la posibilidad de una unificación del Norte y el Sur, ha arrasado en la taquilla hasta convertirse en un fenómeno social. Por eso, es una esperanza el saber que los coreanos están por la labor de dar este importante paso hacia delante. Esto, por muy extracinematográfico que sea, puede sumarle muchos puntos de cara al palmarés en una ciudad donde se vivió la misma situación hace poco más de diez años. Pero, entrando ya en los contenidos meramente profesionales, la película tiene por igual aciertos y lastres. Para empezar, pierde bastante personalidad al querer imitar una producción hollywoodiense, aunque bien es cierto que los medios están muy bien empleados. Fotografía, música y exteriores realmente nos introducen rapidamente en este conflicto fronterizo. La historia que se nos cuenta es la de cuatro soldados -dos de cada parte de Corea- que consiguen vencer los prejuicios y crean una bonita amistad que, sin embargo, está destinada a la tragedia, como sabemos desde el principio. Esto aporta más emoción a este canto a la libertad, un relato que bien podría trasladarse a cualquier sistema político actual. Al igual que en la película se desecha a las personas por estar a un lado o a otro de la frontera, en todos los países vemos cómo en la política se crea oposición por principio y no por apoyo a una causa lógica. Sin embargo, pese a sus buenas intenciones, el tono de la historia resulta algo infantiloide, hay secuencias que tratan de ser graciosas en momentos en los que la trama no lo exige. Por otro lado, al espectador le cuesta asimilar la cantidad de personajes que intervienen en el argumento, y en la primera media hora es fácil perder el hilo. Pero, aun con todo, me parece un gran acierto enfocar esta difícil situación desde el punto de vista de cuatro personas de a pie. No son héroes de guerra, sino que sostienen una relación de amistad como cualquiera en el mundo, pero que tienen que sucumbir a unos absurdos preceptos meramente nacionalistas. En definitiva, "Joint security area" es una historia globalmente notable, que nos ofrece un mensaje moralista -pero certero- y que nos enseña de manera más o menos original el valor de la amistad. Una curiosidad que merece la pena descubrir. Star Wars: Droids, also known as Droids: The Adventures of R2-D2 and C-3PO, was an animated television series that featured the exploits of R2-D2 and C-3PO, the droids who have appeared in all six Star Wars films. The series takes place between the events depicted in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Over the course of the series, the droids team up with four different sets of masters. The first season is divided up into three cycles: at the beginning of each, the droids usually run into their new masters in an accidental way, and at the end of each cycle, they usually are forced to leave their masters for one reason or another. The Great Heep, a television special following the first season, served as a prequel to the third Mungo Baobab cycle. Saint Seiya (聖闘士星矢, Seinto Seiya?), conocido como Los Caballeros del Zodiaco en español, es un manga y posteriormente una serie de anime de género shōnen creado originalmente por el dibujante japonés Masami Kurumada. Publicado inicialmente desde enero de 1986 en formato manga en la revista Shonen Jump, posteriormente se realizó la adaptación en un serie televisiva de 114 episodios, 3 OVA con 31 episodios totales, 5 películas y varias continuaciones del manga original, permaneciendo de esta manera vigente hasta la fecha. One of the richest films of the past decade, Jia Zhangke's Platform finally gets a theatrical run. Jia's three-hour epic spans the 1980s, filtering the period through the mutation of the propaganda-performing Fenyang Peasant Culture Group into the equally cheesy All Star Rock and Breakdance Electronic Band. Jia, whose brilliant follow-up, Unknown Pleasures, opens later in the month, has a strong visual style (based on long fixed-camera ensemble takes) and a powerful set of concerns (the spiritual confusion of contemporary China, caught between the outmoded materialism of the Maoist era and its market-driven successor). Elliptical yet concrete, Platform is a laconic tale of lackadaisical love and even more haphazard entertainment, as played out in a series of unheated factory halls and outdoor courtyards. The environment is at once prison-like and vast; with its objective viewpoint and lovingly bleak locations, Platform looks like a documentary, but it's Pop Art as history. Perhaps influenced by Hou Hsiao-hsien's The Puppetmaster, Jia finds subtle ways to transform the world into a stage. The play of the proscenium against the filmmaker's taste for unmediated reality is fascinating. The penultimate image, held long enough for the full weight of quotidian despair to infect the audience, epitomizes the odyssey from kindergarten collectivity to failed privatization.
