A su vez ambas están separadas por falsos trailers de películas de terror, creados por los conocidos directores del género Eli Roth, Rob Zombie, Edgar Wright. Grindhouse es el nombre de las salas donde, en los años setenta, se proyectaban las clásicas "exploitation", películas de bajísimo presupuesto en las que el terror, la violencia y el sexo campaban a sus anchas. Tarantino y Rodríguez quieren hacer aquí un homenaje a este tipo de cine y a las salas donde se proyectaba. "Planet Terror", dirigida por Rodríguez, se trata de una película de zombies protagonizada por Freddy Rodríguez, Rose McGowan, Josh Brolin, Naveen Andrews, Marley Shelton, Michael Biehn, Stacy Ferguson, Jeff Fahey y Michael Parks. Mientras los afectados por un extraño virus se convierten en un ejército de agresores enloquecidos, Cherry (Rose McGowan), una bailarina de striptease lisiada, y su ex-novio Wray (Freddy Rodríguez) dirigen un espontáneo equipo de guerreros, adentrándose en la noche hacia un destino que dejará millones de afectados, infinidad de muertos y unos cuantos afortunados supervivientes que lucharán por encontrar el último rincón seguro en el mundo. "Death Proof", dirigida por Tarantino, gira en torno a un psicópata de la carretera (Kurt Russell), un asesino en serie que va aniquilando a sus víctimas con su coche. Lo protagonizan Kurt Russell, Zoe Bell, Rosario Dawson, Vanessa Ferlito, Jordan Ladd, Rose McGowan, Sydney Tamiia Poitier, Marley Shelton, Tracie Thoms y Mary Elizabeth Winstead. NOTA: A pesar de la propia concepción de la idea original de sus creadores, "Grindhouse" como tal sólo se estrenó como una sola película en los países anglófonos: USA, Reino Unido y Australia.
