Se trata de: John (James Caviezel) vive obsesionado con la muerte de su padre, el bombero Frank (Dennis Quaid), ocurrida 30 años antes, en 1969, durante un incendio que intentaba apagar. Un día, un extraño fenómeno meteorológico posibilita que John pueda hablar con su padre, con la ayuda de un viejo equipo de radioaficionado que le comunica con el pasado. De esta manera, le advierte de los errores que cometió la primera vez y evita su muerte. Pero el cambio de la historia hará que se sucedan nuevos acontecimientos trágicos...
