Según crece, comprende que la tierra prometida donde le llevó su padre no tiene mucho que ofrecer a un muchacho cuya pasión es jugar al fútbol. Pero cuando el británico Glen Foy, un antiguo futbolista que llega al barrio, ve jugar a Santiago en un partido, reconoce de inmediato a un futbolista hábil, rápido y valiente: el tipo de talento del que está hambrienta la Premiere League inglesa. Glen le dice a Santiago que si viaja a Inglaterra, podría ponerle en contacto con un club que él conoce bien: el Newcastle United.
