This Month's Covermount CD is Glam Nuggets - 15 deep cuts of flash and boogie with New York Dolls, Sparks, Mick Ronson, The Damned, Hammersmith Gorillas and more.
Apart from well-known acts like Sparks, New York Dolls, Mick Ronson, Suzi Quatro or The RAH Band, there are indeed lots of unknown / forgotten nuggets to explore here.
Opener "We Don't Care" by Gumbo is formidable.
Hollywood Brats's "Sick on You" could have influenced the Punk Rock movement.
The Hammersmith Gorillas contribute the melodic "I Live in Style in Maida Vale", which gets better every time you hear it.
Bowie's "Andy Warhol" was firstly released on an album in 1971 and then as a single in 1974 by Dana Gillespie. Beautiful. A real gem.
The lush "Space Age" by Brett Smiley was wasted as a single B-side.
John Howard is one of those tragic characters, who were sucked in by a black hole and never re-appeared, although he is still active as a musician at 69. His "Small Town, Big Adventure" shines as a great, strongly Bowie-esque song.
"Gang Man" by Shakane sounded like a mixture of Mud, Sweet and Slade and was released as a single in 1974, but didn't get them anywhere.
Rock Rebellion were a short-lived band, as the mostly instrumental single "Let's Go" seems to be their only recorded statement.
The Damned (not the The Damned) came from the Netherlands and released their only single "Morning Bird" in 1974. A little tumb, but still quite interesting!
Greg Robbins from somewhere in the UK closes this brilliant compilation with his catchy single "Virginia Creeper" from 1973.
