In addition to his status as a top-selling recording artist, Shakur was a successful film actor and a prominent social activist. Most of Shakur's songs are about growing up amid violence and hardship in ghettos, racism, problems in society and conflicts with other rappers. Shakur's work is known for advocating political, economic, social and racial equality, as well as his raw descriptions of violence, drug and alcohol abuse and conflicts with the law. Shakur was initially a roadie and backup dancer for the alternative hip hop group Digital Underground.Shakur's debut album, 2Pacalypse Now, gained critical recognition and backlash for its controversial lyrics. Shakur became the target of lawsuits and experienced other legal problems. He was later shot five times and robbed in the lobby of a recording studio in New York City. Following the event, Shakur grew suspicious that other figures in the rap industry had prior knowledge of the incident and did not warn him; the controversy helped spark the East Coast-West Coast hip hop rivalry. Shakur was later convicted of sexual abuse. After serving eleven months of his sentence he was released from prison on an appeal financed by Marion "Suge" Knight, the CEO of Death Row Records. In exchange for Suge's assistance, Shakur agreed to release three albums under the Death Row label. On September 7, 1996, Shakur was shot four times in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, and died six days later of respiratory failure and cardiac arrest at the University Medical Center. MTV ranked him at #2 on their list of The Greatest MCs of All Time. Because of his success and influence in music and poetry, he has become a cultural icon and is regarded by many of his peers, fans, and critics to be the greatest rapper of all-time. Contents 2Pacalypse Now is the debut album of Tupac Shakur, released in November 1991. Though less polished and lacking the hard-hitting produced beats of his later albums, it is his most overtly political work. He addresses social problems such as police brutality, poverty, teenage pregnancy, and drug use, some issues giving a lyrical glimpse into the world of a young black person on the urban streets of the United States. 1 "Young Black Male" Big D the Impossible 2:35 2 "Trapped" Shock G, Dank, Playa-Playa, Wiz (backing vocals) The Underground Railroad 4:44 3 "Soulja's Story" Big D the Impossible 5:05 4 "I Don't Give a Fuck" Pogo, Mickey Cooley, Rodney Cooley (backing vocals) Pee-Wee 4:20 5 "Violent" DJ Fuze, Mac Mone, Money B (backing vocals) Raw Fusion 6:25 6 "Words of Wisdom" Shock G 4:54 7 "Something Wicked" Pee-Wee (voice) Jeremy 2:28 8 "Crooked Ass Nigga" Stretch (featured) Stretch 4:17 9 "If My Homie Calls" Big D the Impossible 4:18 10 "Brenda's Got a Baby" Dave Hollister (backing vocals), Roniece (backing vocals) The Underground Railroad 3:55 11 "Tha' Lunatic" Stretch (featured) Live Squad 3:29 12 "Rebel of the Underground" Ray Luv, Shock G, Di-Di, Yonni (backing vocals) Shock G 3:17 13 "Part Time Mutha" Angelique (featured) & Poppi (voice) Big D the Impossible 5:11 Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z. is the second album released by rapper 2Pac. Similar to his debut, 2Pacalypse Now, the album contains many tracks emphasizing 2Pac's political and social views. The album was going to be named "Troublesome 21", the 21 referring to Shakur's age at the time. Debuting at #24 on the Billboard 200, this album saw more commercial success than its predecessor, and there are many noticeable differences in production. It spawned the hits "Keep Ya Head Up" and "I Get Around" and reached platinum status. Although the album was originally released on Interscope, the rights now belong to Amaru Entertainment, the label owned by Afeni Shakur, the rapper's mother. The album was originally released by Shakur's label Out Da Gutta Records. Due to heavy criticism on gangsta rap at the time, the original version of the album was scrapped and re-recorded with many of the original songs being cut. It has been said that 2Pac created two other versions of this album, with many of the songs still remaining unreleased. The group featured Big Syke, Macadoshis, Mopreme, The Rated R and Tupac Shakur. Among the notable tracks on the album are "Bury Me a G", "Pour Out a Little Liquor", "How Long Will They Mourn Me?" and "Str8 Ballin". In 1996 Big Syke and Shakur planned to create Thug Life: Vol. 2 - Out On Bail which would have been released on Makaveli Records, but the latter's murder in Las Vegas prevented this from becoming a reality. Although the album was originally released on Shakur's label Out Da Gutta, Amaru Entertainment, the label owned by the mother of Tupac Shakur, has since gained the rights to it. Although the album was originally released on Interscope Records, Amaru Entertainment, the label owned by 2Pac's mother, has since gained the rights to it. The album was recorded before and while 2Pac was recovering from his November 1994 shooting, and released while he was incarcerated. Perhaps as a result of these circumstances, Me Against the World has become known to many as the most incendiary of 2Pac's releases, expressing an intensely personal mix of emotions and reactions to the events of his life. The album consists of frequent digressions into the dangers of paranoia, organized crime, and the moral repercussions of violence. 1 "Intro" Dan O'Leary, Debbie Hambrick, Jay Jensen, Jill Rose, Sarah Diamond Tony Pizzaro, Jill Rose (co-producer) 2 "If I Die 2Nite" 2Pac Easy Mo Bee 3 "Me Against the World" 2Pac, Dramacydal, Mariah SoulShock & Karlin 4 "So Many Tears" 2Pac, Digital Underground, Stretch, Thug Life Shock G 5 "Temptations" 2Pac Easy Mo Bee 6 "Young Niggaz" 2Pac, Killa (backing vocals), Le-Morrious "Funky Drummer" Tyler (backing vocals), Milia (backing vocals), Moe ZMD (backing vocals) Le-Morrious "Funky Drummer" Tyler, Moe Z.M.D. 7 "Heavy in the Game" 2Pac, Eboni Foster (backing vocals), Lady Levi (backing vocals), Richie Rich Mike Mosley, Sam Bostic 8 "Lord Knows" 2Pac, G-Money (backing vocals), Kenyatta (backing vocals), Killa (backing vocals), Kim Armstrong (backing vocals), Natasha Walker (backing vocals) Brian G, Moe ZMD (co-producer), Tony Pizarro co-producer) 9 "Dear Mama" 2Pac, Reggie Green (backing vocals), Sweet Franklin (backing vocals) Tony Pizarro, DF Master Tee (co-producer), Moses (co-producer) 10 "It Ain't Easy" 2Pac Tony Pizarro 11 "Can U Get Away" 2Pac Mike Mosley 12 "Old School" 2Pac SoulShock, Ezi Cut (co-producer) & Jay B (co-producer) 13 "Fuck the World" 2Pac, Shock G/Humpty Hump (chorus and background vocals) Shock G 14 "Death Around the Corner" 2Pac Johnny "J" 15 "Outlaw" 2Pac, Dramacydal, Rah Rah (backing vocals) Moe Z.M.D. All Eyez on Me is the fourth studio album by American rapper 2Pac. It was released on February 13, 1996, and was the last album released during 2Pac's lifetime, as he was murdered only seven months after the release of this album. The album is widely regarded as one of the most influential albums in hip hop history and recognized as one of the crowning achievements of 1990s rap. It has been called "despite some undeniable filler [...] easily the best production [2Pac]'s ever had on record". According to the RIAA, the album is one of the highest-selling rap albums of all time, with 4.5 million copies of the album sold in the United States alone by June 18, 1998. There were a few who called it one of the greatest, if not the greatest hip-hop album ever. Shakur had complete creative input on the album from the name of the album to the cover which Tupac chose to symbolize how the media has crucified him. The album was completely finished in a total of seven days during the month of August of 1996. The lyrics were written and recorded in only three days and mixing took an additional four days. These are among the very last songs he recorded before his fatal shooting on September 7th, 1996. Although The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory was released almost two months after his death, on November 5th, 1996, it is not a true posthumous album in the way that the later 2Pac albums are since he completed the album before his death. It has been recognized as a classic by many critics and fans. The emotion and anger showcased on the album has been admired by a large part of the hip-hop community, including other rappers. The album made its debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 and sold 663,000 copies in the first week, making Shakur the first rapper to have two #1 albums in one year. As of 1998, the album had sold over 4 million copies in the United States and 28 million worldwide. 1 "Intro/Bomb First (My Second Reply)" * Intro: Makaveli * First verse: Makaveli * Chorus: Makaveli * Second Verse: E.D.I. * Third Verse: Young Noble Makaveli; Darryl "Big D" Harper 4:56 2 "Hail Mary" * Intro: Makaveli * First verse: Makaveli * Chorus: Makaveli * Second verse: Makaveli * Third verse: Kastro; Young Noble * Second chorus: Yaki Kadafi * Background vocals: Prince Ital Joe Hurt M Badd 5:12 3 "Toss It Up" * Intro: Makaveli * First verse: Makaveli * First vocalist: Danny Boy * Second vocalist: JoJo * Chorus: Danny Boy; K-Ci & JoJo * Third vocalist: K-Ci * Fourth vocalist: Aaron Hall * Second verse: Makaveli * Outro: Makaveli Dametrius Ship; Reggie Moore 4:44 4 "To Live & Die in LA" * Intro: Makaveli * First verse: Makaveli * Chorus: Val Young * Second verse: Makaveli * Third verse: Makaveli * Outro: Makaveli QDIII 4:33 5 "Blasphemy" * Intro: Makaveli * First verse: Makaveli * Chorus: Prince Ital Joe * Second verse: Makaveli * Third verse: Makaveli * Outro: Jamala Lesane Hurt M Badd 4:38 6 "Life of an Outlaw" * Chorus: Outlawz * First verse: Makaveli * Second verse: Makaveli * Third verse: Young Noble; E.D.I. (Remember Me) was the first posthumous album by 2Pac, released in 1997. Although it is the second album release after his death, it is the first to be finished without the creative input of 2Pac. Having left a large body of work behind, this was the first release from his mother's new imprint Amaru Entertainment, set up to control his posthumous releases. It spawned two hit singles, "Do for Love" and "I Wonder If Heaven Got a Ghetto", the former of which (Do For Love) has been certified Gold by the RIAA. The album eventually reached multi-platinum status, a trend that many of his subsequent posthumous albums would follow. 1 "Redemption (Intro)" We Got Kidz & Ricky Rouse 1:48 2 "Open Fire" Akshun 2:52 3 "R U Still Down? This album consists of a collection of unreleased material and remixed songs from Tupac's "Makaveli" period while signed to Death Row Records. This album was the second album released without Shakur's creative input. Until the End of Time was very highly anticipated and ended up being the best selling hip hop album in 2001. The single "Until the End of Time" features Richard Page and contains a sample from the song "Broken Wings", a 1980s song by Mr. Mister (from which Page is lead singer). The video for this song featured a compilation of unreleased footage of Tupac Shakur. Suge Knight and Afeni Shakur were the executive producers of this album, with ten of the songs being produced by longtime Tupac producer and friend Johnny "J" and Cold 187um. It was released in November 2002, debuting at number 5 on the Billboard 200. This album consists of a collection of unreleased material and remixed songs from Tupac's "Makaveli" period while signed to Death Row Records, and was produced by Johnny "J", Jazze Pha, Frank Nitty, and E.D.I. of Outlawz. Tracks include "My Block (remix)," "When We Ride On Our Enemies," "Catchin Feelins" and "Never Call U Bitch Again". It features 23 unreleased recordings including remixes from the period of 1995-1996 along with some of Shakur's input for the album before his fatal shooting with appearances by Nas, Outlawz, Ma, Jazze Pha, Ron Isley, and Tyrese, among others. The hit single, "Thugz Mansion," comes in two versions: the Nas acoustic version, on which the music video is based, and a hip hop version featuring Anthony Hamilton. The album sold 366,000 copies in its first week.[citation needed] On January 31, 2003, it was certified 5x Platinum in the U.S.[1] The track "Ghetto Star" has appeared on the soundtrack to the video game 25 To Life. Released in the US on December 14, 2004 (December 12 in the UK), Loyal to the Game was produced by Eminem, and is consequently very reminiscent of Eminem's style.[1] According to an interview with MTV, Eminem was so moved by Tupac's life and work that he wrote a letter to Tupac's mother, Afeni Shakur, asking her to consider letting him produce the album. and she agreed, and gave the go ahead.[2] The album featured two singles- "Thugs Get Lonely Too" and "Ghetto Gospel".[3] Eminem used various unusual production techniques during the creation of this album, namely modifying the pace and pitch of Tupac's voice to better suit the beats produced.[1] There has also been cutting and pasting of vocals to produce new words now synonymous with current rap culture.[1] It debuted on the Billboard 200 at number one with sales of over 330,000 copies in its first week. It was later certified Platinum in the US and Gold in UK.[4] 1 "Soldier Like Me (Return of the Soulja)" Eminem Eminem 3:50 2 "The Uppercut" Eminem E.D.I. & Young Noble 3:50 3 "Out on Bail" Eminem 3:54 4 "Ghetto Gospel" Eminem Elton John * Contains elements from "Indian Sunset" by Elton John 3:58 5 "Black Cotton" Eminem Eminem, Kastro & Young Noble 5:03 6 "Loyal to the Game" Eminem G-Unit 3:23 7 "Thugs Get Lonely Too" Eminem Nate Dogg 4:48 8 "N.I.G.G.A. It was released June 12, 2007[1][2][3] and it contained some of 2Pac's first songs recorded in 1989. The collection of songs was originally released in 2000, but were soon forced to be taken off shelves by Afeni Shakur, due to copyright infringement. However, they are now being re-released with Afeni Shakur's approval. The album featured 10 songs featuring 2Pac's early crew. These are the tracks that led to 2Pac joining the tour with Digital Underground as a roadie for Chopmaster J and a dancer and crew member for Digital Underground.
