Sam "Lightnin'" Hopkins (March 15, 1912 - January 30, 1982) was a guitarist and singer of country blues born in Houston, Texas, United Unidos.Nacido in Centerville, Texas, Hopkins passion for the bluesHe lit at the age of 8 when she met Blind Lemon Jefferson in a deserted church in Buffalo, Texas. That day, Hopkins felt that the blues was "in him" and began learning from his cousin, country blues singer Alger "Texas" Alexander. In the mid-30s, Hopkins was sent to the county jail in Texas for an unknown crime. In late 1930 Hopkins moved to Houston with Alexander in an unsuccessful attempt to succeed in the music scene there. In the early 40s he had returned to Centerville to work as a farmer.
