Johnny Adams (January 5, 1932 to September 14, 1998) was an American blues singer from New Orleans, Louisiana.
Recognized in New Orleans as "the black canary" for his extraordinary vocal skills, veteran singer Johnny Adams recorded materials varied throughout his career, especially in his later years with the Rounder label, with very elegant tribute to composers Doc Pomuy and Percy Mayfield which showed those touches of jazz, blues and soul that characterized it. But then he decided to engage in sophisticated ballads, full of string arrangements, contrary to the sound that had defined the rhythm and blues of New Orleans.
His biggest hits were his versions of "Release Me" and "Reconsider Me" in the late 1960s.
