Richard Wagner - German composer and theorist of art . Biggest reformer opera , Wagner had a significant impact on the European musical culture , especially German . To a much greater extent than all European composers of the XIX century , Wagner saw his art as a synthesis and as the expression of a particular philosophical concept . Its essence takes the form of an aphorism in the following passage from Wagner's article " Artwork of the Future" : " As a person until not available until receiving joyfully ties linking it with nature and art will not be free until he disappears reason to be ashamed connection with life . " Stem from this concept two fundamental ideas : art should happen to belong to a community of people and this community , the highest form of art - musical drama , understood as an organic unity of word and sound .
