Sumergidos en el interior de un submarino denominado El Colorado, toda la tripulación de Chaplin entrará en conmoción cuando surja el dilema de cumplir las órdenes que el gobierno de los Estados Unidos ha dispuesto.

Relevado de su cargo por la desobediencia, el capitán Chaplin no sigue a cargo de El Colorado, promoviendo de manera extraordinaria al oficial Sam Kendal (Scott Speedman), quien deberá asumir la responsabilidad de disparar el arma nuclear a las costas de Pakistán.
