"For the Love of Money" narra, a lo largo de dos décadas, la historia real de un inmigrante judío que busca el sueño americano. Todo comienza en Tel Aviv en 1973, donde el joven Izek dirige en un sórdido casino ilegal, lleno de gángsters, que lleva junto a su familia. Cuando la violencia y la delincuencia se hacen insostenibles, Izek (Yuda Levi) y sus parientes se trasladan a Los Ángeles, con la esperanza de comenzar de nuevo y lograr sus ambiciones. Allí parece encontrar el éxito y, después de enamorarse de la bella Aline (Delphine Chanéac), la diosa fortuna parece estar de su lado. Sin embargo, poco tiempo después, el mundo de la delincuencia del que Izek trató de escapar continúa siguiendo sus pasos.
