Nueva adaptación basada en la novela de Graham Greene ambientada en el Reino Unido en 1964. Pinkie Brown es un joven matón de los bajos fondos cuya arma favorita es una navaja, pero demasiado imprudente en sus crímenes. Para cubrir sus huellas en uno de ellos y tener una coartada, se casa con una inocente camarera. Pero su relación comienza a amenazar la estabilidad mental de Pinkie, y la llegada de una pareja que empieza a meter las narices en sus asuntos lo lleva al límite de la cordura.
