Es la octava entrega de la serie de videojuegos Final Fantasy. Argumento En el mundo de Final Fantasy VIII existen ciertas academias, llamadas jardines, especializadas en la formación de determinado tipo de soldados, llamados SeeD, en el continente de Balamb se encuentra el más antiguo e importante de los jardines, en él se encuentra el aspirante a SeeD, y protagonista de la historia, Squall Leonheart. Los SeeD realizan misiones por encargo en todo el mundo. Cada jardín entrena a sus SeeD basados en diferentes tipos de técnicas, en el Jardín de Balamb se utiliza el poder ciertas criaturas llamadas GF (Guardianes de la Fuerza), los cuales pueden ser llamados en combate y enlazarse a los guerreros para aumentar sus poderes y habilidades.
