"A Better Tomorrow" es un remake de la película de 1986 "A Better Tomorrow"de John Woo, es una coproducción entre Corea del Sur, Hong Kong y Japón.
Kim Hyuk (Joo Ji Moo) vive la vida más rápido que un mafioso de alto rango en la ciudad portuaria de Busan, Corea del Sur. Su mejor amigo es su compañero mafioso Lee Young-Choon (Song Seung-Heon). A pesar de que Kim Hyuk parece estar en la cima del mundo, él está obsesionado por el recuerdo de dejar atrás su hermano menor, Kim Chul (Kim Kang-woo) y su madre cuando trataban de huir a Corea del Sur desde Corea del Norte. La madre de Kim Hyuk fue golpeada hasta la muerte y Kim Chul encarcelado después de que fuera capturado por las autoridades norcoreanas.
Kim Hyuk luego viaja a Tailandia con la nueva banda de reclutada de Jung Tae-Min (Jo Han-Seon) para una reunión con gángsters tailandeses. El encuentro resulta ser un montaje, planeado, en parte, por Jung Tae-Min. Kim Hyuk es capaz de idear una manera de salir de la reunión, pero más tarde es capturado por la policía tailandesa y encarcelado. Cuando su amigo Lee Young-Choon se entera de lo que sucedió a Kim Hyuk en Tailandia, se va a al encuentro de la banda de Tailandia en Pusan para matar a su jefe. Durante el tiroteo Jung Tae-Min recibe un disparo en la pierna.
Tres años más tarde, Kim Hyuk es por fin liberado de la prisión y viaja a Busán. Él encuentra a su amigo Lee Young-Choon lavando carros y ahora cojeando de una pierna. Jung Tae-Min, el hombre que lo traicionó, ha subido hasta lo mas alto de la mafia. Además, el hemano menor de Kim Hyuk, Kim Chul, ha llegado a Busan y trabaja para el Departamento de Policía de Busan. Mientras tanto, Kim Chul vigila de cerca Jung Tae-Min en su intento de acabar con su pandilla.
Cuando Jung Tae-Min intenta matar al hermano menor de Kim Hyuk, Kim Hyuk se lanza de nuevo en el mundo de las pandillas para vengarse
