Sus miembros estaban muy influenciados por bandas como Venom, Bathory, Mercyful Fate, Motörhead, Raven, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Blitzkrieg, Black Sabbath y Accept. Kreator, junto a sus compatriotas Destruction, Tankard y Sodom, son considerados los cuatro grandes del Thrash Metal Alemán .
