En la noche del jueves, el canal estadounidense Comedy Central emitió el primer capítulo de la nueva temporada de la serie, que fue finiquitada en 2003. Groening concibió la serie para devolver al público de los "Simpson" una nueva plataforma de humor ácido. "Futurama" también fue muy aclamada, pero tras cuatro años de descenso en sintonía y arrastre, Fox decidió cancelarla. El éxito de la venta de DVDs supuso un renacimiento de la serie. De los 24 nuevos capítulos con las aventuras de Fry, Leela, Bender y el profesor Farnsworth, 13 se emitirán este año y el resto tendrá que esperar a 2011.
